Tameside firm supports Scouts anniversary badge

AN ESTABLISHED Tameside firm has given an emblem for local Scouts its seal of approval once again.

Brother UK has sponsored a badge celebrating the 50th birthday of the North Tameside District Scouts.

It’s the second time that the Audenshaw-based supplier of technology solutions has supported the Scouting district, after the company also financially backed its 25th year badge in 1999.

Scouting started in 1907 in Ashton-under-Lyne, before the district of North Tameside was formed in 1974 when the Ashton and Droylsden scouting districts were combined following new local authority boundary changes being introduced.

The winning badge design was Oliwia, a Scout from 2/1 Hurst in Ashton.

Isobel Ball from Brother UK presented the new badges to Assistant District Commissioners Heather Pearce and Ken Severs, as well as a Squirrel called Elijah and a Cub called Eva, outside the firm’s HQ.

Isobel said: “We are really pleased to once again support the Tameside Scouts in their 50th year. As part of our growing community engagement programme, we have made it our priority to support community groups across our borough, particularly those that offer young people the ability to grow their skills for the future and experience new opportunities.”

North Tameside District Scouts are looking for more leaders and supporters to help more young people in Scouting by volunteering. Any interested adults should email alan.fish@ntscouts.org.uk or call 07931 765 120.
