MOTORISTS and residents in Mossley face significant disruption as one of its main routes is out of action.
Stamford Road, at its junction with Manchester Road near the railway station, has been closed to traffic.
The closure, initiated today (Wednesday, September 4), is because of essential works being conducted by Electricity Northwest in the area.

Temporary traffic lights have been managing the flow of vehicles at the junction for several weeks prior to this latest move.
However, an emergency notice issued to Tameside Council prompted the latest diversions to ensure the safety of workers and timely completion of necessary maintenance.
The Correspondent understands the closure is expected to last for approximately one week.
It affects a key access point to Mossley and nearby residential areas, potentially causing delays and congestion during peak travel hours.

So if we need to go top mossley we have to drive to greenfield are Ashton to get to top mossley, what a complete joke, just another Tameside council mess
The road works and impatient drivers were making it a dangerous situation, some drivers were coming out of the lane of traffic and driving down the other side of the road n then having to reverse back up, madness
There are 3 roads down from Top Mossley to Bottom Mossley … one 2-way… 2 one-way… but only one road up from Bottom Mossley to Top Mossley… the only route from Bottom to Top Mossley is the one that is currently closed… it would make sense to have one of the other 2 one-way roads reversed… so that the large population of Bottom Mossley wouldn’t need to drive miles out of their way.
Yes they should make rough town road the other way , going up instead of down would make more sense
Shameside Council absolute disregard with their utilities work force causing catastrophic mayhem again especially expert timing kids back to school buses rerouted but hey what the hell only poor relations of Shameside Council not a single thought 💭 of
I live just of Manchester rd
And Although these roadworks are personally making my life hell I also know that these works are very necessary and that the lads and lasses performing them are under a great deal of pressure to ensure our services are up and running on schedule and correctly!
Local patience is definitely wearing thin,.
But this won’t be forever, hang in there Mossley!
fab move Tameside 👏 wait until the kids go back to school then close off a major route. 🤦♀️
Keep it shut permanently, lovely and peaceful, too many cars in Mossley.
I guess it’s a trade off. What do you prefer, having electricity or not being able to drive on a road for a while? Maybe people ought to try using those funny things attached to your lower body and actually walking for a change.
It always seems as if the only sufferers are car users. I live half way up Stamford Road and have serious disability issues. I am not able to drive due to medical reasons and live alone. Hence I rely totally on public transport for every journey be it social, shopping, hospital visits or whatever. Currently I have to walk up or down the steep Stamford Rd to get a bus and then again on my journey home. In addition, accurate information, regarding where and when buses are going to appear, is unavailable.
The nearest route from Bottom Mossley to Top Mossley is Well-i-Hole. But that now also has roadworks and lights at the bridge. It’s not Tameside, but it is becoming a nightmare! Busses are now unreliable too. Sigh.
