MORE than 200 Scouts have been having lots of fun marking the 50th birthday of North Tameside District Scouts.
It was formed in 1974 when new local authority boundary changes were introduced, with the Ashton and Droylsden scouting districts combined to make a new district called North Tameside.
Scouting started many years before that, as groups in Ashton and Droylsden formed in 1907.
Last weekend, a week-long celebration camp got under way at Bibbys Farm Scout Camp in Chorley, Lancashire for youngsters from North Tameside District Scouts.
The Scouts and Explorers are staying for the whole week, while the Squirrels attended for one day and Beavers and Cubs stayed for the weekend.
Tents and activities were set up on Saturday, August 3, before the camp was formally opened by the District Commissioner Andy Morton and his team the following night with a campfire, which many parents also attended.
There were many action songs which involved lots of jumping up and down and arm waving which kept everyone entertained.
