A NEW publicly accessible defibrillator has been installed in Hyde, giving residents access to potentially life-saving equipment around the clock.
The outdoor device has been installed at Rowan House on Grange Road South, home to the Integrated Service for Children with Additional Needs (ISCAN) and will be available for the community to use 24 hours a day should it ever be needed.
The equipment was funded by Derbyshire-based online prize draw operator High Peak Comps after ISCAN won the company’s free-to-enter defibrillator wheel.
ISCAN, an NHS community service, provides speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, dietetics and complex needs nursing for children with additional needs.
Dawn Bennett-Painter, of ISCAN, welcomed the installation and said the new defibrillator would benefit the wider community.
“ISCAN is located in a residential area of Hyde, so it is going to be of great benefit to the community,” she said.
“We hope it is never needed but we are grateful to have it for the community to access if required.”
The donation continues an ongoing partnership between High Peak Comps and ISCAN. The organisation has previously benefited from two £500 Amazon wish lists funded by the company, including iPads to support children’s speech development.
Charles Edwards, owner of High Peak Comps, said: “Congratulations to ISCAN for their win on the free-to-enter High Peak Comps defibrillator wheel.
“This is the 17th defibrillator we have installed in the Tameside, High Peak and Stockport areas through the High Peak Comps defibrillator wheel.
“We never want a defibrillator to be used, but we are glad to know it’s here. I’ve got family who work for the NHS, so it is particularly close to my heart to support ISCAN.”
The defibrillator was installed by Derbyshire-based I D Electrical and Security.
As well as running online prize draws for cash, vehicles, technology and experiences, High Peak Comps says it is committed to supporting local communities, with proceeds from its competitions helping to fund projects such as the defibrillator programme.
The company has also recently supported other organisations in Tameside, donating £500 to Vitality Gardens in Hattersley and providing sensory resources for Sunflower Day Nursery in Hyde.
