Residents are being invited to help shape plans for a major scheme aimed at improving safety and accessibility along the A560 through Hattersley.
Tameside Council is set to launch a public consultation on Monday 17 August, seeking feedback on proposals for a series of “Streets for All” improvements between Hattersley Roundabout and Green Lane in Gee Cross.
The plans are designed to make it easier and safer for people to travel around the area, whether they walk, wheel, cycle, use public transport or drive. Proposed improvements include wider footpaths, resurfaced roads and pavements, upgraded pedestrian crossings, safer junctions, improved bus stops and new segregated cycle lanes.
The scheme would also strengthen connections to local shops, services and the recently upgraded railway station.
The consultation will run until Friday 18 September, giving residents and road users the opportunity to share their views online and at a series of public drop-in sessions.
The events will take place at:
- Small Hall, The Hub, Stockport Road, Hattersley, on Monday 24 August from 1pm to 3.45pm
- Active Ken Ward, Hattersley Road East, on Wednesday 2 September from 5pm to 8pm
- Active Ken Ward, Hattersley Road East, on Saturday 12 September from 10am to 2pm
The project currently forms part of a funding bid and has not yet secured funding. If approved, work is expected to begin in summer 2027 and take around 12 months to complete.
Councillor Stephen Homer, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, said: “We’re committed to creating streets that are safer, more accessible and better connected for everyone.
“These proposals have the potential to transform an important route through Hattersley by improving access to local services and public transport, while making it easier and more attractive for people to walk, wheel and cycle.
“The designs are still at a concept stage and we want to hear from the people who know the area best. Your feedback will help us develop a scheme that works for residents, businesses and all those who use the A560.”
People can view the proposals and submit their feedback throughout the consultation period, with responses helping to shape the plans before any final decisions are made.
