Audiences are being invited to enjoy an evening of ghosts, laughter and theatrical chaos when Guide Bridge Theatre presents Noël Coward’s classic comedy Blithe Spirit next month.
The Audenshaw theatre will stage the much-loved play from September 7 to 12, with James Shawcross directing the production.
Blithe Spirit follows novelist Charles Condomine, who invites eccentric medium Madame Arcati to conduct a séance while researching a new book.
However, events quickly spiral out of control when the ghost of his first wife, Elvira, unexpectedly materialises, much to the horror of his current wife, Ruth.
As tensions rise on both sides of the grave, Coward’s celebrated comedy combines razor-sharp wit, misunderstandings and supernatural mayhem in one of the playwright’s most enduring works.
First performed in 1941, Blithe Spirit has remained a favourite with theatre audiences for more than eight decades thanks to its clever dialogue, memorable characters and timeless humour.
A spokesperson for Guide Bridge Theatre said the play offers “a performance of sparkling wit, supernatural mischief and ghostly chaos”.
