Street artists, skaters, breakdancers and DJs will take over Ashton town centre this weekend as Ashton Underlined returns for a day of live creativity and entertainment.
The free event will take place outside Ashton Town Hall on Saturday, 15 August, from 11am to 4pm, with organisers promising a colourful celebration of street art, music and community spirit.
Around 20 artists are set to create large-scale artworks live throughout the day, giving visitors the chance to watch murals and canvases develop in real time. Alongside the live painting, there will be skateboarding demonstrations, breakdancing performances, DJ sets and a giant community doodle wall where families and children can get involved.
The event is being delivered by Art Battle Manchester and street artist Jay Sharples, with the aim of showcasing street art as an accessible outdoor gallery for the wider community.
Ashton Underlined forms part of Tameside Council’s Super Saturdays programme, which brings a series of free cultural and entertainment events into the town centre. Further Super Saturday events are planned for September and October.
The initiative comes as Ashton continues to undergo major regeneration work, including the development of a new market square designed to host regular markets, community activities and cultural events.
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley, said: “We can’t wait to bring back another Super Saturday event for residents to enjoy, after such a successful launch event last month. This month’s Super Saturday brings a fantastic opportunity for our residents to watch incredible murals and canvases come to life by the talented artists.”
Following the success of the first Ashton Underlined event in 2024, organisers are expecting another strong turnout and are inviting people from across Greater Manchester to visit the town centre and enjoy the activities on offer.
The event is free to attend and will take place outside Ashton Town Hall, Ashton-under-Lyne, on Saturday, 15 August, from 11am until 4pm.
