TWO TAMESIDE Brownies have achieved the highest honour after completing their Gold Awards.
Jessica and Carys, who are part of the 3rd Higher Openshaw Brownie Unit, have been recognised for their hard work, commitment and dedication after completing a series of challenges both at home and during unit meetings.
The Brownie Gold Award is a special achievement which sees girls put their skills and experiences into practice while completing activities designed to build confidence, creativity and teamwork.
Before reaching Gold Award status, Jessica and Carys – who live in Audenshaw and Droylsden and both go to school in the former, first completed their Bronze and Silver Awards.
To achieve their Bronze Award, the girls – whose unit is part of the Ashton division – had to complete two theme awards, while their Silver Award required them to complete four. Each theme award involved completing an interest badge at home, a skills builder activity during unit meetings and three hours of activities with their fellow Brownies.
For the Gold Award, the girls had to complete all six theme awards before taking on their final challenge.
As part of the final stage, both Jessica and Carys also led an evening at their Brownie unit based around badges they had completed.
Carys taught the other Brownies ballet as part of her dancing badge, while Jessica showed the group how to make cupcake toppers linked to her baking badge.
The achievement marks an exciting milestone for both girls, who will move on to Guides in September after completing their time as Brownies.

“It is fantastic that they have been able to complete this achievement before moving up to Guides in September, and I know they will take all the skills and confidence they have gained with them on their next adventure.”
