A NEW GP surgery, theatre upgrades and improvements to scout huts are among a dozen projects across Tameside to receive a share of council funding aimed at revitalising neighbourhoods and community spaces.
Tameside Council has announced the successful bids in the second round of its Pride in Place Impact Fund, part of a wider £1.5 million programme designed to support lasting improvements in towns across the borough by March 2027.
Community groups were invited to apply for funding for projects that would enhance public spaces, town centres and local facilities. Earlier this year, money was allocated to schemes including Eco Streets, Hyde Gridiron, plans for Dukinfield Town Hall’s public realm and new play equipment.
Among the latest recipients is Ridgehill Community Medical Centre in Stalybridge, which plans to transform a former shop unit into a permanent GP surgery, with the possibility of expanding into a wider community health hub.
Denton West Cricket Club has secured funding to install a lift and improve access to its first-floor changing rooms, while Hyde Little Theatre will carry out a major refurbishment programme, including electrical upgrades, LED lighting and new rehearsal and changing spaces.
Elsewhere, The Vale arts venue will create a new visual arts studio and improve its outdoor areas, and Stalybridge Archery Club will enhance its outdoor range while carrying out ecological and biodiversity work.
The successful projects span the borough and include:
- Dane Bank Green Space Charity, which will create an accessible outdoor theatre and performance space.
- Improvements to an access road serving community organisations in Dane Bank.
- Project Phoenix 2 at the 7th Stalybridge Scouts, including accessibility and energy-efficiency works.
- Upgrades to public spaces and playing fields in Haughton Green.
- The Camp Connectivity Improvement Scheme at the 3rd Gee Cross Scouts.
- Tameside Digital Community’s plans for a dedicated digital hub.
- Bathroom improvements, including accessible facilities, at Newton Cricket Club.
The final round of applications is now open and will close on July 31. Community groups, organisations and residents have been encouraged to put forward ideas that could benefit local areas.
