THIS Saturday (March 28) sees the return of Non-League Day, which shines the spotlight on the lower tiers of English football.
There’s more than just football on offer at Stalybridge Celtic, which is combining a crucial match with a family-friendly Easter celebration.
Supporters heading to the game against Trafford FC can expect an afternoon packed with activities, including a free Easter egg hunt for young fans around the ground.
Children who complete the hunt will be rewarded with chocolate treats handed out by Celtic captain Liam Tongue.
It’s been organised by the club’s supporters’ association, which has also paid for free face painting.
To make it even more accessible, discount vouchers distributed through local schools mean an adult and child can attend the match together for just £5.
On the pitch, there is plenty at stake. Celtic head into the game sitting fourth in the table and firmly in the play-off places, with just six games left to secure a shot at promotion. Their opponents, Trafford, are battling at the other end of the table – currently 20th and five points from safety.
It’s not just at Bower Fold where the spirit of Non-League Day will be in action across the borough.
At the Project Solar Stadium, Hyde United host Stockton Town in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Meanwhile, in the National League North, Curzon Ashton welcome Chester FC to the Tameside Stadium, marking player-manager Adam Barton’s first home game in charge.
And in the Cheshire Football League Premier Division, Denton Town FC take on Vulcan FC at Whittles Park.
Mossley AFC, Ashton United and Droylsden are all playing away from home.
