ALE lovers in Tameside won’t have to travel far to take their tastebuds around the world this month.
The Society Rooms in Stalybridge is hosting a 12-day beer festival, serving up 30 real ales – including five brewed overseas.
For the first time, the Grosvenor Street pub will pour a real ale from Mexico, alongside festival beers from Brazil, Italy, Spain and the USA.
Almost all of the ales have been brewed exclusively for the event, running from Wednesday, March 4, to Sunday, March 15.
Among the international line-up are Tropical from Cervejaria Bodebrown (Brazil), Read the Room from Good Word Brewing (USA), Session IPA from Malteza (Mexico), Vicious IPA from Almogaver (Spain) and Nigredo from Birrificio Italiano (Italy).
Drinkers can also sample British brews including Lucky ‘Lips (Shepherd Neame), Pitch Perfect (Vale), Crimson Legend (Brains), Salem Coastal Confusion (Batemans), Shug Monkey (Elgood’s) and Brewed Awakening (Hook Norton).
In a nod to changing tastes, three of the festival ales are vegan-friendly. Ingredients across the range include everything from coffee and maple syrup to hibiscus, elderflower, orange and vanilla, alongside a wide variety of malt and hop combinations.
Pub manager Liza Braddock said: “The festival is a great celebration of real ale. It will allow us to showcase a selection of superb beers, featuring many not previously available to our customers in the pub, including those from brewers as far afield as Mexico and Brazil as well as those closer to home, over a 12-day period.
“All of the beers will be available at great value-for-money prices.”
Tasting notes for each ale will be available in the festival magazine in the pub, with a digital version accessible via the Wetherspoon app and website.
