A STALYBRIDGE landmark better known for traders and shoppers will soon be hosting a different kind of exchange – ideas on how to build a greener Tameside.
The Civic Hall in Armentieres Square will be the venue for a Climate Action Conference where local businesses, community groups and environmental organisations are invited to gather to share practical ways to cut their environmental impact and save costs.
The event on Monday, February 9, is set to mix expert insight with hands-on discussion, running from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
Alongside talks from regional organisations, two interactive workshops will give attendees the chance to swap experiences and pick up realistic ideas they can put into practice.
Groups lined up to speak include Moors for the Future, Tameside Greenspace Volunteers, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Greater Manchester Ecology Unit and energy and sustainability specialists such as Scottish Power Electricity North West, Ecobelt and The Growth Company.
A networking lunch is also planned, giving organisations time to make contacts and explore joint projects.
Councillor Laura Boyle, Executive Member for Environmental Services and Neighbourhoods, said: “This conference is an important opportunity for Tameside to come together and take meaningful steps towards our shared environmental goals.
“Whether you’re already active in climate action or just starting your journey, this event will provide inspiration, practical guidance and the chance to collaborate with others committed to making a difference.
“The choices we make today will shape the future for our children and young people. Our community’s commitment to climate action is key to creating a better Tameside.”
Organisers say the focus will be on achievable steps – from reducing energy use to finding funding and support for green projects. For smaller organisations in particular, the promise is that climate action does not have to mean big budgets, but smarter choices.
Places can be booked through Tameside Council’s website, with attendance open to businesses and community groups across the borough.
