Fun and inclusive day for people with learning disabilities and autism

ADULTS with learning disabilities and autistic people, along with their parents and carers, are being invited to make their voices heard at a special event.

‘The Big Chat’ will combine opportunities to share views on local services with a full day of activities designed to bring people together.

The event aims to make conversations around care, health and community inclusion more accessible – and a lot less formal – by creating a relaxed environment where people can connect, create and contribute their ideas for change.

The Wellness Centre on Lance Corporal Andrew Breeze Way in Denton will host the event on Thursday, October 16.

Running from 10am to 3pm, the drop-in will see Tameside Council’s Adult Services and partners – including Active Tameside – host a mix of information stalls, wellbeing sessions and creative experiences.

As well as having their say on how local support could be improved, visitors can take part in a range of inclusive activities – from swimming and yoga to crafts, dancing, tai chi and even a visit to a pony patch.

There’ll also be music sessions with Tameside Music Service and bowling for those looking for something more active.

Health and wellbeing will also be in focus, with Let’s Talk Boobs running consultations at 10.30am and 1.30pm.

A wide variety of local organisations will be represented, including the Learning Disability and Autism Team; Community Learning Disability Team; Shared Lives; SeeAbility; Routes to Work; People First; and Be Well Tameside.

Councillor John Taylor, Executive Member for Adult Social Care, said: “We want you to have your say on the support available for people with learning disabilities and/or are autistic in Tameside.

“The Big Chat is a great opportunity for you to share your views, talk to local support services and get involved with a range of fun activities.”
