Mossley community rallies for ‘Spruce Up Day’

MOSSLEY is set to come together for a community initiative aimed at brightening up the town and bringing residents closer.

The Spruce Up Mossley Day will see neighbours, families and businesses roll up their sleeves to give the town a fresh look.

Organised by the town’s Council, it takes place on Saturday, September 27, with a packed day of activities planned.

Volunteers in Mossley help to clean up the area

From tidying streets to sprucing up gardens, the day is designed to showcase the pride locals take in their community and ensure it looks its very best.

A highlight of the day will be the Doorstep Challenge, encouraging households to ‘spruce up’ their gardens or doorsteps.

Residents are asked to submit before-and-after photos of their transformations, with prizes on offer from local businesses for the top three entries.

Photos must be submitted by 6pm on Sunday, September 28.

There will also be several community clean-up sessions taking place, led by the Mossley Town Team and local volunteer group the Litterbugs.

The day kicks off with a litter pick from 11am until 12.30pm, meeting at Woodend Mill car park. The Town Team will then take over from 1–2pm at Mill Street car park, before the Litterbugs return for a final session from 3–4pm at the Market Ground.

All equipment will be provided – volunteers are simply asked to bring themselves, family, or friends.

Mossley Town Council has been clear that this is not about replacing the work of Tameside Council, but about building on it.

The aim is to create a town that feels even more welcoming and attractive, not just for those who live there, but also for those who shop, visit, and spend time locally.

And the weekend does not stop there.

On Sunday, September 28, the popular Mossley Farmers Market makes its return to the Market Ground, giving residents and visitors the chance to browse fresh local produce, artisan goods, and unique handmade items.
