DENTON Carnival returned on Sunday, September 21, with organisers describing the day as one of the biggest and best yet.
A newly formed committee had just over 40 days to put the event together, but with the backing of more than 60 volunteers, the Carnival went ahead successfully.
The Grand Parade set off from Haughton Green at 11.30am, led by the City of Manchester Pipe Band.
Around 500 participants took part, including the Rossendale Drum Majorettes, Preston’s flamboyant Rhythm Carnival Troupe, local clubs, charities and, for the first time, a Royalty Parade element.
At Victoria Park, visitors found a packed programme of activities. Families enjoyed free craft sessions, music workshops, fitness challenges and a mock crime scene staged by the Police Cadets.

Food stalls offered a wide choice, from gourmet burgers and Caribbean dishes to pizza and doughnuts, alongside donkey rides and the Carnival’s first Charity Dog Show, hosted by Barking Mad Bull Breed Rescue UK.
Oggy’s Custom Vehicle Show attracted plenty of interest, while Spiderman, Lububus and other entertainers kept crowds entertained. On the bandstand, DJ Steve opened a full schedule of performances, followed by local groups, children’s favourite Mr Tumble, solo artist Zackousic and a Bob Marley tribute act to close the day.
The fairground, provided by JW Shaw Amusements, was another popular draw and continued its long association with the event.
Organisers said they were “overwhelmed” by the level of community involvement and the support that helped make this year’s Carnival a memorable celebration.
