LIBRARIES in Tameside are about to turn a new page with the return of their popular Story Makers sessions – and the theme is all about celebrating home sweet home.
Led by Simon the Storyteller, the free interactive sessions will invite children and families to let their imaginations run wild while exploring the idea of “Love Where You Live.”
Stories that spark laughter, creative games that bring communities closer together, and perhaps a few tall tales along the way can be expected.

Starting on Tuesday, September 23, the sessions – organised by Tameside Council and funded by the Tameside Community Safety Partnership – will take place at Ashton Library, Dukinfield Library and Hattersley Library, with an additional Zoom option for early years settings across the borough.
But the young storytellers won’t just be listening – they’ll be shaping the story.
Families will be able to share their ideas for a bespoke children’s picture book, which will later be printed, published, and handed out free at a special celebratory event. Every family attending will walk away with a signed copy.
The project doesn’t stop there as families and nurseries can also join in extra workshops, including special guest appearances from award-winning children’s author Caryl Hart and illustrator Andy Rowland, who’ll be helping young creators put pen to paper.
Councillor Leanne Feeley, Tameside’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said: “The Story Maker sessions are always extremely popular with our residents as they encourage excitement in children around books and reading.
“Reading is a huge gateway to knowledge and creativity. Children also get the opportunity to contribute to a bespoke published and printed story, which is incredible.
“The theme of Love Where You Live adds an extra personal touch, which can foster love and admiration for our borough. We are encouraging as many residents as possible to take part in this fantastic series of activities.”
No booking is needed – families can simply turn up and join in. For more details or to get involved, email book.start@tameside.gov.uk.
