Pride and progress in GCSEs at Longdendale

STUDENTS at Longdendale High School have been reflecting with pride after the anxious wait to receive their GCSE results was over.

The Hollingworth-based school says the results show a “continued upward trend in subjects” and its focus on “supporting every student to reach their full potential”.

They added that this year’s grades have shown improvements across subjects such as Geography, Spanish and Music.

The Spring Street establishment – part of the Stamford Park Trust – has also reported a rise in English Baccalaureate (EBacc) outcomes, building on last summer’s success.

The EBacc is not a qualification itself but a school performance measure in England for GCSE subjects that students have taken. It requires students to achieve at least a grade 4 or 5 in English Language, English Literature, Maths, Sciences, a Humanities subject (History or Geography), and a foreign language.

One of the school’s students, Laramie, is moving on to Xaverian College in Manchester to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Ancient History after achieving two grade 9s, six grade 8s, two grade 7s and a grade 6.

“I’m really proud of my Longdendale legacy and want to thank all the staff who have helped me to achieve my potential,” he said.

Meanwhile, Emmie is looking forward to taking History, Business and Psychology at Ashton Sixth Form College after receiving her results, which included four grade 9s and six grade 8s.

“I’m really proud of what I have achieved at Longdendale and I’m very grateful for all the support I’ve received,” she said.

Longdendale’s head teacher says he’s proud of the whole school family and feels the students are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

“We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved not only in terms of their academic success, but also in the resilience, determination and maturity they have shown throughout their time with us,” said Michael Chiles.

“These results are a testament to the hard work and commitment of our students, the dedication and care of our staff, and the invaluable support of their families.

“We are proud of every single student and wish them all the very best as they take their next steps. Whether they are moving on to college, apprenticeships or other pathways, we know they leave us well-prepared for a bright and successful future.”
