FAMILIES in Tameside can get pedalling, pick up new skills and enjoy the great outdoors through a series of Sunday sessions.
The free sessions at Rayner Lane in Ashton-under-Lyne start this weekend and run until October.
Open to all, they provide the opportunity to receive cycle training from qualified Active Tameside instructors, free bike repairs from Manchester Bike Kitchen, and nature-themed activities.
The ‘Community Cycle Sundays’ also mark the launch of a walking and cycling scheme – which Tameside Council commissioned, Transport for Greater Manchester funded and Groundwork Greater Manchester delivered.

The family-friendly events are designed for everyone, regardless of their cycling experience.
They will run from 9.30am to 10.30am on August 17, September 28 and October 26.
With limited parking available nearby, anyone taking part is encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport and then meet at the junction of Heron Drive and Rayner Lane. The precise location can be found using What3words: ///payer.rugs.curiosity
Councillor Tafheen Sharif, Executive Member for Population Health and Wellbeing, said: “Community Cycle Sundays are a fantastic opportunity for families to come together, get active, and fall in love with the outdoors.
“It’s more than just cycling, it’s about building confidence, discovering new skills, and creating joyful, healthy memories in the heart of our community. We’re proud to support an initiative that brings people closer to nature, promotes active travel, and makes wellbeing fun and accessible for everyone.”
