STALYBRIDGE is set to make waves this summer as a pop-up beach brings a splash of seaside fun to the town.
The indoor attraction will offer a vintage-style escape for families and fun-seekers looking to soak up the holiday vibes – without leaving Tameside.
Located at the former Victoria Market Hall, now the Civic Hall, the ‘beach’ will open its doors from 10am until 3pm each day from Tuesday, August 19, to Saturday, August 23.
Each day will have new surprises to enjoy – from a beat-bopping kids disco and treasure hunting to a host of group games and touch tours.
There will be seaside-themed arts and crafts, a puppet workshop and much more for families to get involved in – and, just like at the seaside, you’ll be able to relax in deckchairs or build a castle in the sand pit, with an ice cream too for good measure!
For children and families who like a quiet sensory play time, this will be available between 10am and 11am each day.
The pop-up beach is a pilot event as part of the Stalybridge Capital Regeneration programme, designed to breathe new life into the historic town and ensure the hall on Trinity Street – which has undergone major refurbishments – becomes a vibrant cultural hub.
“The comedy weekend was the first event and it went down really well – both evening events were sold out, showing that we were providing an event people wanted,” said Stalybridge councillor Leanne Feeley, who is the Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture.
“We are aiming to build on that with the pop-up beach and bring something different again for families to enjoy. It will be a really fun event with lots to do and take part in, that will really bring the summer vibe to Stalybridge.
“Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a great day out at the seaside, without having to go hours in the car!”
