FIFTEEN adults pursuing a variety of career paths have received awards as part of their studies at Ashton Sixth Form College.
A celebration of the students’ successes was recently held at The Village Hotel in Hyde, surrounded by their families and friends.

The winners were across categories such as Access to Higher Education in Health Sciences, Teaching Assistants, GCSEs and Degrees in Education, as they were honoured with a personal citation to highlight their achievements.
The college’s Vice Principal Sheridan Lewis and Assistant Principal Jo Fletcher-Saxon praised students for their hard work and dedication in a speech before they presented certificates and prizes to the award recipients.

Jo, the college’s Assistant Principal and Head of Higher and Adult Education, said: “I am incredibly proud of our adult and higher education students at the college. It’s a real pleasure to celebrate the achievements recognised through Ashton’s Adult and Higher Education Awards Evening.
“Adult learners at Ashton Sixth Form play a vital role in our college community, and we take great pride in their dedication and progress. Many are training to become teachers through our Foundation Degree in Education and PGCE programmes, while others are completing GCSEs for employment or taking steps toward a new career path.”

Among the success stories on the night were Naomi Binns, who will be progressing to university to pursue a career in nursing. The student on the Access to Higher Education in Health Science course received an accolade for balancing academic work with the responsibilities of caring for a young family, and consistently producing work of an outstanding standard.
PGCE Post-16 Teacher Training student Courtney Jones, who has secured a job as a progress coach at a college, was recognised for “engaging with enthusiasm throughout the programme” and “making a real difference to her students – a high proportion of whom have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)”.
Ann-Marie Cumberbatch, a student on the Foundation Degree in Education, was also recognised with an award for being “a positive and valued member of her group”. The teaching assistant, who is on the path to becoming a teacher, “consistently supports and encourages her fellow students and has shown remarkable progress in her studies”.
