HYDE Fundraisers, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, have announced plans for one of their biggest charity presentations to date at the upcoming Ashton Sci-Fi Day on July 5.
The voluntary group, well known for raising money for good causes through character fundraising, will be making donations to six charities at the event.
Member Elliot Davey has nominated TOG MIND, which provides high-quality local mental health services focused on prevention, early intervention and primary care, as well as empowering individuals and communities to live well.

St Ann’s Hospice, based in Heald Green, has also been selected, thanks to a nomination by Hyde Fundraisers supporter Tameside Storage Centre. Founded in 1971, St Ann’s is one of the oldest and largest adult hospices outside London, offering vital care and support.
Inspired by the emotional journey of rugby league legend Rob Burrow and the tireless fundraising efforts of his friend Kevin Sinfield, the group will also be making a donation to support those affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Hyde Fundraisers have reached out to Kevin directly in order to support this cause.
Men’s mental health is also high on the agenda, with donations being made to two important organisations. Mentell is a UK charity offering safe, confidential spaces for men aged 18+ to talk without judgement or advice. Andy’s Man Club, a men’s suicide prevention charity, offers free-to-attend peer support groups across the UK – including a recently launched group in Stalybridge – and online.
Finally, Melanie Broughton, another member of the group, has put forward Denton Autism ADHD Family Support, which brings together families, children and young people in a friendly, welcoming and safe environment.
Steve Haines of Hyde Fundraisers said:
“This year we are committed to supporting as many charities and community organisations as we can. We’ve already made donations to Hyde Memorial Trust, The Anthony Seddon Fund and the Tameside Rotary Ukrainian Baby Incubator Appeal.”
Treasurer S.P. Bowling added:
“It’s thanks to the amazing support we receive from our Sci-Fi Day sponsors that we’re able to help so many worthwhile causes.”
Last year’s Ashton Sci-Fi Day supported George House Trust, LEAP Children’s Centre and Our Kids Eyes.
The 2025 event is supported by Arcades Shopping Centre, Tameside Markets, Ashton Town Team, and Ladysmith Shopping Centre. Hyde Fundraisers will officially mark their 40th anniversary next year.
