A MOSSLEY brownie unit has crowned its new brownie queen, who follows in the footsteps of a sibling.
Isla Diamond takes over from the retiring queen, her sister Grace, for the year ahead.
Isla, who goes to St Christopher’s RC Primary School in Ashton-under-Lyne, will represent the 1st and 2nd St George’s Brownies in Mossley.
The nine-year-old was crowned by her mum Diane at the ceremony at St George’s Church on Monday, May 19.

During the ceremony at the Stamford Street venue, the brownies entertained everyone by singing a couple of songs and speeches were made by both Isla and Grace.
Isla’s retinue included Mila, Heather, Calla, Eleanor, Beth and Isabella.
A brownie queen is selected every year and always crowned in the month of May.
The role includes planning and organising fundraising events to raise money for the brownie unit – helping towards the upkeep of the building, insurance and brownie membership.

During her year, Grace raised £780 by running a sponsored mindfulness evening, a Halloween disco, jigsaw and book stalls, and various chocolate tombolas.
As Isla takes over the traditional honour, among the activities planned for the year ahead are a sponsored walk, Halloween disco, chocolate tombolas and raffles, and potentially a games party or glow party.
Diane told The Correspondent: “I’m delighted that both my girls have been given the opportunity to represent their brownie unit as Brownie Queen. I’m so proud of them both and love to see their determination to succeed at every event they organise.”
