Families flock to open farm event in Tameside

DOZENS of visitors attended Open Farm Sunday at Oak Farm in Matley, located on the border of Stalybridge and Hyde, to gain a closer look at life on a working farm.

The event, hosted by farmer Stephen Sherratt and joined by Councillor Allan Hopwood, gave the public a rare opportunity to explore the farm, meet the animals, and learn about the essential role farming plays in food production and environmental stewardship.

Guests explored a range of farm machinery and discovered how the farm operates throughout the year.

Oak Farm is also in the early stages of developing plans to sell produce directly to the public, strengthening its connection with the local community and promoting fresh, sustainable food.

The day was part of a national initiative aimed at showcasing the importance of farming to everyday life and inspiring greater understanding of the industry.
