A TAMESIDE supermarket’s cafe has been earmarked for closure as part of significant restructuring plans.
Retail giant Sainsbury’s has announced measures that will result in the loss of 3,000 jobs across the UK.
And part of that will see 61 in-store cafés shut down, including the one in its Denton branch, as well as its patisserie and pizza counters.

The company said these changes aim to ‘simplify the business’ citing low usage of cafés among shoppers.
While the decision, which is subject to consultation, may come as a blow to employees and regular café patrons, Sainsbury’s said that in-store food halls will remain a focus for the retailer moving forward.

The company said it faces a “particularly challenging cost environment” and is making tough decisions to remain competitive.
“This is a difficult but necessary step for our business as we respond to changing customer habits and rising costs,” a spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said.
“We remain committed to serving our customers with great quality and value while supporting our colleagues through this transition.”
