Family-run auctioneer turning bids into wins

Gaita Auctions Co-Owner Alice McGowan

TURNING bids into wins, Gaita Auctions is a fast-growing local auctioneer which caters to both businesses and the public.

A family-run company in Tameside, it first began trading on a local car boot in 2017.

The following year, Gaita launched its online store – Gaita Home & Garden – before expanding into online auctions in 2024.

From market trader to auctioneer, Gaita is proud of its journey and aims to sell the best items at the lowest prices.

With nationwide tracked delivery, customers come from all parts of the UK and can book easy online collections at a time that suits them, six days a week.

Gaita specialises in smaller job lots, making it more affordable for people to buy and sell on a smaller scale via Facebook Marketplace and car boots.

The auctioneer has sold a wide variety of interesting and regular household items – such as desktop 3D printers, children’s items, novelty slippers and currently has over 200,000 packets of party table confetti.

Based at Victoria Works on Lodge Lane in Dukinfield, Gaita sources goods in large quantities but will typically list lots between one and 100 items.

The company also caters to small traders with the bigger lots and the occasional palletised goods sale, as well as dealing with liquidation and end-of-line stock.

Alice McGowan, Managing Partner and Co-Owner of Gaita Auctions, said: “The process of buying at auction can seem daunting at first, but we aim to make it a friendly, fun and profitable experience for all of our customers.

“Having spent our early years as market traders, buying stock from auctioneers, we have a good insight into what our customers might like from an online auction. We cater to buyers of all sizes, from single item lots to full pallets of goods.”
