Mossley pub to be converted into flats

A FORMER Mossley pub will be converted into three flats after it was deemed it would ‘bring social, economic and environmental benefits.’

The Best O’Brass, on Manchester Road, has stood empty since it closed in February 2023.

But Tameside Council has given permission to Daniel Taylor’s proposal to place living accommodation on each of its three storeys.

Now two-bedroomed properties will be put on the ground and first floor, with the cellar being converted into one-bedroomed living space.

And the authority is clear in its opinion of the scheme, saying: “With economic conditions considered and a number of operating public houses within close proximity, evidence bears that there is a not presently a viable position for the public house to trade from.

“As such, the loss of the public house is accepted, particularly given its repurpose to provide residential accommodation within proximity of the local shopping centre.

“The conversion of the vacant public house would bring social, economic and environmental benefits to Mossley.

“The external appearance of the building would remain unaltered, with the proposal not impacting significantly on neighbouring residents and providing an adequate standard of living accommodation for future residents.”

Each flat would have independent access – the ground and first floor levels from Manchester Road using existing entrance doors, with the lower ground floor level flat from Waggon Road, with an existing cellar door extended to create a new entrance.

Only one letter of objection was received, raising parking and litter concerns, claiming extra bins would add to an existing vermin problem.

But planning permission was granted, with a condition requiring that noise mitigation measures are implemented to prevent such concern.
