Festive fun helps raise Winter Warm Hub funds

USERS and volunteers of a charity based in Ashton-under-Lyne have come together to enjoy some festive fun.

Age UK Tameside recently held its first Christmas fundraising event to help spread some joy.

Stalls, quizzes, coffee and cake, and face painting were among the many activities on offer at the charity’s Katherine Street base, against the backdrop of live entertainment provided by the Stockport Ukelele Band.

CEO Marcia Thorpe said it was great to see so many people coming together, having a great time whilst supporting this charity event.

Peter Chester, a trustee of the charity, added: “It’s been an absolute pleasure leading a highly-dedicated team to deliver this truly heartwarming event.”

All of the funds raised will go towards running costs for the charity’s annual Winter Warm Hub.

It provides much-needed support to older people during the cold winter months – with free home-cooked meals, winter woolly hats, gloves, socks giveaways, and time to get together with older people in the centre’s lounge.

Last year, the Winter Warm Hub provided 549 home-cooked meals and gave away 1,130 winter woollies with warm bags, blankets and hot water bottles.

It will officially restart on January 8, 2025, with winter woolly giveaways already on offer at the centre.

Age UK Tameside has been celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. For more information about the charity, visit https://www.ageuk.org.uk/tameside/
