Tree-lightful festival sparkles in Gee Cross

A CHURCH in a Hyde village was transformed for a weekend into a wonderland of beautifully decorated Christmas trees.

The theme of this year’s Gee Cross Christmas Tree Festival was children’s television programmes past and present.

Hyde Chapel hosted the festival, which featured more than 30 trees decorated by local schools, businesses and organisations.

There was a small entrance fee, a raffle, a tombola, children’s fun and games, refreshments and a Santa’s Grotto.

Combined, they helped to raise £3,343 towards the Knott Lane church’s roof fund.

The Gee Cross Christmas Tree Festival committee has thanked everyone who supported the festival, which took place on Saturday, December 7, and Sunday, December 8.

Visitors voted for their favourites and the top four have been revealed.

In first place was a Sesame Street themed tree decorated by Gee Cross and District WI, while Hyde War Memorial Trust’s Camberwick Green tree came second.

A tree inspired by Hey Duggee decorated by Rebekah Brown’s Dance Academy was third, and in fourth place was a Shaun the Sheep tree decorated by Hyde Chapel’s Rainbows.

The festivities in Gee Cross are not over yet as the village gears up for its first Gingerbread Trail for families to take part in on Sunday, December 22.
