A MAN who threatened police officers with a knife after running from a business in Dukinfield has been arrested.
Officers witnessed a man in all dark clothing running from the shop on King Street on Saturday evening (December 7).
They gave chase, during which the man turned and threatened them with the weapon.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police says no injuries were reported.
The 43-year-old man was apprehended and arrested on suspicion of a knife point business robbery.
Police said on Sunday (December 8) that he remains in custody for questioning in connection with the incident.
A senior cop said he was proud of the officers involved for reacting quickly in the interests of public safety.
“Knives have no place on our streets,” DCI Abdul Kahar, of the GMP Tameside district, added.
“They bring only violence and misery and we will continue to work tirelessly to remove them and hold any offenders to account.
“We all have a part to play in fighting, preventing and reducing knife crime.”
Police are urging anyone who knows or suspects someone of carrying a knife to report it immediately – either online at gmp.police.uk or by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.
