School’s pride in earning special award

A DUKINFIELD school has expressed its pride in becoming one of the first in Tameside to receive an award for the support it provides for young carers.

All Saints Catholic College has been recognised with the Tameside Young Carers Silver Award.

Rebecca Moseley, the school’s Young Carer Lead and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, has recently rebranded and restructured the support young carers receive within the school, which she says has had “a huge positive impact”.

She added: “The Young Carer Co-ordinator, Jo Keogh, is fantastic at organising and supporting events for the young carers and has lots of ideas in the pipeline.”

Natalie Gilligan, headteacher at the Birch Lane school, said she is “extremely thrilled” about the award.

“It is recognition for our pupils that are young carers,” explained Ms Gilligan. “They dedicate their time and care to members of their family who need their support.

“This group of young people are an inspiration to our school community and we are proud that they have received this award.

“Our school values have faith and family at the core and our young carers embody these values every day of their lives.”

Praising the development of the programme, one of the young carers commented: “Since being at the school, the young carers have changed a lot and they offer lots of support to help all the young carers.

“They give us rewards and make sure we do not feel alone.”

All Saints follows in the footsteps of fellow Dukinfield school Rayner Stephens, who recently achieved the Tameside Young Carers School Award – Bronze.
