DAVID Fish believes Mossley AFC’s fine start to the season is just a case of ticking off target number one.
And he is glad to have selection headaches for the right reasons.
The Lilywhites made it four points from two games with a convincing 3-0 win over Northern Premier League West Division promotion hopefuls Clitheroe, which was wrapped up by half time.
Undeterred by the driving rain and playing up the Seel Park slope, Will Shepherd – described as ‘a real driving force’ – scored the home side’s opener came in the 19th minute, firing in a rebound after Reece Webb-Foster’s ball in.
Clitheroe, despite their high ambitions for the season, struggled to contain relentless Mossley pressure. However, Louis Potts placed a penalty for the Lancastrians wide of the post.
And the hosts got their rewards through Matt Kardacz, who doubled the lead with his first goal for the club, leaving the Clitheroe goalkeeper with no chance.
Not content with one, he struck again before the break, capitalising on a defensive lapse to make it 3-0 before a fine defensive effort in the second half.
All that leaves Fish with some thinking to do ahead of Mossley’s FA Cup preliminary round tie against Eccleshill United.
The manager said: “Four points from two games was the target I set.
“There’s still a bit of disappointment we didn’t see out the Newcastle Town game but four points from two games is a good start.
“We showed a lot of grit, determination and character. That goes a long way at this level. Hard work gets its rewards at this level of football, it really does.
“And I’m pleased the squad showed its worth. It gives me a few headaches ahead of weekend.”
Final Score: Mossley AFC 3-0 Clitheroe FC
Goals: Will Shepherd, Matt Kardacz (2)
