AN ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE launderette hopes to reopen as soon as possible after a small fire at its premises.
Wash and Dry, on Whiteacre Road, became the scene of drama when a bin containing rags and rubbish burst into flames.
As that was removed, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) officers dampened down after being called just before 7.30am on Wednesday, August 14.
Resulting water damage meant the business was forced to close and utilities firms will be called out to check everything is safe.
But when The Correspondent visited, the owner hopes gas and electricity supplies will be declared OK and once the building has dried out, it will be able to open.
A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels and a positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire.”
