ORGANISERS of Denton Carnival are urgently appealing for volunteers to help marshal the parade at this year’s event.
They say the parade is at risk of being cancelled unless people are willing to come forward to fulfil the important role, helping to ensure everyone’s safety on the day.
The town has not had a carnival parade since before the Covid pandemic, back in 2019.
The event will take place on Sunday, September 8, with the parade due to leave Tatton Road in Haughton Green at 12.30pm before making its way to Denton.
Denton MP Andrew Gwynne said: “A big thank you to all who have helped to pull this event together, and hopefully it’ll be a fabulous day. It’s a difficult job to organise such a big event, especially when it’s dropped off the carnival calendar for a few years.
“But we need people to volunteer to marshal the parade from Haughton Green to Crown Point. If you can help, please email ajgwynne@sky.com.”
Additional marshals are not required for the carnival festival in the town centre on the same day.
The festival – which includes a family funfair, live music, food and drink – will go ahead as planned.
