Stalybridge set for crisp sound as butties return

A TASTE sensation that was revived is coming back to Stalybridge – crisp butties.

Two years ago, the Buffet Bar at the town’s railway station captured the imagination with a menu based around the dish.

Classics were pimped up for a special pairing menu with beers from Thornbridge Brewery.

And it proved so popular, media coverage went national and social media influencers even live streamed the tasting experience.

Combinations such as the Philly Cheese Steak (Roysters, Quavers and Philadelphia) and Hot and Spicy (Nik Naks, Jalapeno crisps and Jaipur hot sauce) paired with some great beers went down a storm.

And the posting of a flashback picture, which attracted 76,000 views, nigh on 500 likes, and 100 shares on X, sparked demand.

Now after a two-year break, the butties are coming back for one day only, Thursday, June 27.

A new menu offers something for everyone, whether it be familiar or daring.

The nostalgic crisp butty

There will be vegan and gluten-free options and even a six-dish tasting option for those who just cannot choose.

Barry Shaw, operations manager of the Buffet Bar and creator of the menu said “The crisp butty menu idea really started off as a joke on social media but became so popular that we decided to turn it into a reality.

“When we did the pairing event in January 2022, the interest just went off the scale. It was being live streamed online and videos were popping up all over social media.

“People travelled to Stalybridge from miles around to be part of something very special. However, after the craziness died down, we decided to leave it as was it was intended.

“That was until a throwback picture resurfaced on X and the interest of a return was expressed very clearly.

“This time, we have devised a completely brand new menu that will feature six more combo crisp butties that have been created to pair perfectly with the beer styles that this renowned real ale pub sells.

“Crisp lovers are strongly advised to book their space to avoid disappointment for this special one-off menu”

Bookings are being taken by the Buffet Bar over social media or by calling them on 0161 303 0007.
