A PROLIFIC burglar who attempted to play hide and seek with police has been arrested following a chase across a farmer’s field.
Officers recovered a Range Rover Evoque car that had been stolen from Denton’s Town Lane on Monday, May 13.
But after there was no sign of the suspect, a marked Greater Manchester Police vehicle turned a corner and disappeared around a bend while its Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit (TVIU) waited to see if they could locate him.
40 seconds later, a figure emerged from the bushes at nearby Ross Lave Lane and proceeded to run across farmland into an opposing field and into a set of trees.
After a short pursuit on foot, the suspect was in cuffs, arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving before being transported to custody.
PC Oliver Rose, from the TVIU, said: “This job is a good example of cross-collaboration between a number of departments in Specialist Operations including the Dog Unit.
“From the call coming in, we responded to the incident in minutes, getting to the scene and locating the vehicle in question.
“Our patience and anticipation of where the suspect could appear from helped us in apprehending him, as he tried to make his way across a field and into the wilderness.
“Burglary offences are one of the force’s priority areas and we are determined to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.”
