Tameside Council Election Candidates: Mossley

Stephen Homer (Labour)

I’M STEPHEN Homer, a father of four and Grandfather to three. I have lived in Mossley for 33 years and run a local driving school business.

I have served Mossley as a Labour Councillor since 2018 and I am standing for re-election on May 2nd, where I want to continue working with my colleagues Taf and Jack, in being a strong voice for Mossley and its people.

I deal with issues affecting residents, both personally and for the town. I have successfully, along with ward colleagues and residents, opposed inappropriate planning applications and will continue this work.

I am also working to develop stronger links with community groups to benefit their activities.

These include Mossley Food Bank, Mossley Football Club, Friends of Egmont Street, Friends of Brunswick Dam, the Andrew Street Pond Project, Fair Trade Mossley and the Town team.

I see our local businesses as an important part of our community, I will continue to work with them and others to see how we can involve them to benefit Mossley and develop better local links.

Callum Percival (Conservative)

HI, my name is Callum and I am your Conservative candidate for this year’s local elections in Mossley.

I am standing because I have seen the decline in our area and Tameside as a whole.

Labour is focussing on national issues because they want you to forget that they have been in control of Tameside for 47 years, the question I ask is this – is Tameside any better after 47 years of Labour?

These local elections are for local issues like the unfair increase in car parking charges – a direct attack on vehicle owners in Mossley, other issues such as potholes, litter, fly tipping and bins not being emptied.

For too long Labour have neglected Mossley because they favour Ashton and are too Ashton-centric, while our town suffers with lack of investment.

On Thursday, May 2, send Labour a message that Mossley will be neglected no longer and neither will your vote.

Sarah Whiteley (Green)

I AM standing to give the residents of Mossley the opportunity to vote for a Green candidate who is committed to local people and the planet.

I have worked in education for 20 years in primary and secondary schools. I understand the challenges families face, including the current cost of living crisis.

I am devoted to working with the council to support families and ensure young people have equitable opportunities compared to other areas within Greater Manchester.

I am an ecology graduate and volunteer with a local conservation charity. I would be well-placed to advance Tameside’s Climate Change and Environment Strategy.

I would work to improve access to and develop green spaces as they are important for improving physical and mental health, as well as playing an essential role in increasing biodiversity.

I also believe reducing carbon emissions needs to be a priority for Tameside.

I am free to represent the vibrant Mossley community – in place of party bosses, I will be accountable to the people.
