Kenneth (Alex) Cooper (Green)
AS A proud Hyde resident, I am standing as Green Party candidate in Hyde Werneth to ensure the option to vote for real change.
I believe in listening to constituents and finding solutions that are practical and serve our common interests.
The toxic clashes I see between the two main parties only serve to put people off. It does not have to be that way. It is possible to work together.
I joined Tameside Green Party to help promote a sustainable economy that balances the needs of local people while preserving and enhancing the natural environment. It is essential for our physical and mental wellbeing.
As sole Green Councillor, Lee Huntbach strongly opposed Godley Green Garden Village and I have been determined to oppose it too.
This is, in fact, Green Party policy.
Following Lee’s victory in 2019, we now have a growing number of Green Councillors across Greater Manchester, proving that we are electable.
If you want Green, vote Green.
Jim Fitzpatrick (Labour and Co-Operative)
I REGARD it as an honour to be standing in Werneth, representing the Labour Party.
It was in 1990 when I first stood for Werneth and won for Labour. I have gained a great deal of experience in both Werneth and Godley Wards, as a Councillor for more than 30 years and being involved in many changes to Hyde.
Hyde Renewal, which I chaired, transformed the town, but more change is needed for it to be sustainable in the future.
I was also on the shadow board of school governors to build Alder High School, a huge success story.
In 2015, I worked with Councillor John Bell to ensure Gee Cross Community Centre was transferred to the community and taken out of council control.
It is the heartbeat of Gee Cross for residents’ social interaction.
I have been the election commissioner for both the Jamai Mosque and the HBWA for many years.
I will be the strong voice for Hyde Werneth and make sure Hyde gets its fair share to improve our town centre and its economic growth.
Philip Fitzpatrick (Independent)
I AM standing in the local elections on May 2 in Hyde Werneth to become your independent Councillor.
l served as a Labour Councillor in Newton for 13 years, always working in my local community.
l have been Chair of the Grafton Centre for more than 10 years, working hard to keep the centre going.
We now have a very busy centre offering a large range of activities from bingo to dancing. We have about 1,000 people a week through the doors.
l have seen our local market and town centre almost empty of people.
As a Councillor, l will put on several events at the market to attract people in. l care about our town having lived here almost all my life.
Once elected, l will do all l can to help our town get back to where it used to be.
Chris Halligan (Conservative)
MY NAME is Chris Halligan and I am standing in the Hyde Werneth ward in this year’s local election.
I am married and have two wonderful children. I am a compliance analyst for a printing and marketing business.
I know how much pride the people of Hyde and Gee Cross have for their community and the precious green belt – your priorities are my priorities.
I am standing on a platform of a revitalised Hyde town centre supported with its own development plan, cleaner streets, free car parking for three hours on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays and lower charges outside these times, to support our great local businesses.
I am also campaigning for our road network infrastructure to be invested in. I am standing for real improvements to children’s services, and protection of the green belt across Hyde – something my Labour opponent refuses to do.
A vote for me is a vote for a community-focused Councillor who will represent you with pride, respect and decency.
