Tameside Council Election Candidates: Hyde Godley

Francesca Coates (Labour)

HYDE town centre, Godley Green, bins, potholes and fly tipping.

Talking to residents on the doorstep in Godley, I know these are many of the issues we all care about. I am already working to help resolve them.

Hyde has some great events coming this year – Whit Friday Band Contest, the Lantern Parade, Hyde Mela and the Beer Festival to name a few.

Your current Hyde Labour Councillors have a huge part to play in bringing these events and I am looking forward to joining this hard-working team.

As a working mum with a young child at primary school, I understand modern pressures on life and want to ensure all children get the future they deserve.

I would be proud to work for this community with the energy, passion and enthusiasm needed to put the pride back in Hyde.

If you want someone who sees the problems and will work hard to get solutions, please vote for me on May 2.

Andrea Colbourne (Conservative)

IT IS a huge honour to be standing for re-election in Hyde Godley and has been an absolute pleasure to represent my community since you elected me as your Councillor last May.

We have achieved a lot together, but there is still more to do.

I would love to get the opportunity to continue what I have started locally, and to continue to represent Hyde Godley Ward residents.

My priorities for Hyde Godley are to continue to oppose the destruction of Godley Green and carry on fighting to save our Green Belt.

We want to see cleaner and greener streets, clamp down on fly tipping and we will reduce parking charges and offer free parking.

Your Labour Councillors and candidate put national issues on their leaflet as they know their local record is so poor – ever higher council tax bills, concreting over of our green belt and poor road repairs.

This is your chance to re-elect a hardworking local Councillor- who will listen to and support residents on local issues.

Emma Powell (Green)

I AM standing in Hyde Godley to give residents the opportunity to vote Green and enable me to add to the work started by our first Green Councillor, Lee Huntbach.

As a Green Councillor, I would work to progress Tameside’s Climate Change and Environment Strategy.

It still lacks effective actions or targets, despite an already agreed Greater Manchester Environment Plan.

More Greens on the Council will strengthen our influence when challenging the huge Labour majority.

The number of Green Councillors across Greater Manchester has increased from three, when Lee was elected in 2019, to 13 now.

I fully support our former Green Councillor’s attempt to stop the development of Godley Green Garden Village.

His authenticity in protecting our green environment was illustrated in his attempt on cut toxic pesticide use and swap grass verges for wildflowers.

This would have saved many thousands on grounds maintenance costs, as well as benefitting the environment. A win for the budget and a win for wildlife!

  1. So are you planning to do anything about the scallies riding unlicensed motorcycles about with balaclavas on? Or the people driving antisocially? I think I’ll just vote for the green party member because she’s the best looking.

  2. After sitting in on the speakers panel and witnessing how they set about destroying Tameside being led by the chairman who visibly forces the other Labour councillors to vote with him .If that’s what democracy looks change is a long time overdue.
