Tameside Council Election Candidates: Dukinfield/Stalybridge

Benjamin Hart (Green)

I HAVE lived and worked in Tameside all my life and work around Stalybridge and Dukinfield – running my own building business, prioritising local, private and small business clients.

This allows me to limit the use of my van, reducing my environmental impact by cycling to jobs once my equipment and resources are in place.

I decided to stand as a candidate to give the people of Stalybridge and Dukinfield the option to vote Green.

I support local campaigns to save Tameside’s Green Belt, oppose the current plans to use it for development in favour of brownfield and bringing empty properties into use.

I support the building of more affordable homes.

Our Green Belt and other green spaces are essential for the health and wellbeing of people and crucially, to prevent flooding.

Following our first Green Councillor, elected in 2019, we are proven to be electable.

If you want Green, vote Green.

Malcolm Smith (Conservative)

I’M MALCOM and I am standing as your Conservative candidate in this year’s local election.

I have lived in Hyde for more than 35 years. I served my time as an apprentice welder at Adamson and Hatchett in Dukinfield.

I drove HGVs for nearly 20 years and have worked in engineering for the last three.

I have been married for 29 years and we have one daughter and two grandsons. I am passionate about wildlife and conservation, and volunteer at Tameside’s People 4 wildlife.

Your three Dukinfield and Stalybridge councillors voted to increase your council tax by the maximum amount – 4.99 per cent while failing to tackle the important issues in this borough, such as potholes, bins not being emptied, fly tipping and children’s services. This is what this Labour run council want you to forget.

Labour wants to focus on national issues – because they have been in control of Tameside for 47 years and they have failed each and every one of you.

On Thursday, May 2 you have the power to change that!

Eleanor Wills (Labour)

REPRESENTING residents in Dukinfield and Stalybridge has been a privilege.

Having lived in the area all my life and now raising my three young children, I can see the challenges that people face with the current financial crisis.

It has never been more important to have someone on your side, standing up for you.

I will continue working for you, driving down the inequalities we face, representing our area, our community, continuing to stand strong so our children and grandchildren continue to live in an area they can be proud of.

My pledges are to continue to support residents as we face unprecedented pressure on family finances.

Push forward plans to transform the area for a more prosperous future for all residents and continue to support our community, with great projects like Street Fest.

With your support on May 2, I will continue to put your needs first representing those issues that matter most.

  1. How would you help the 1950s women ( WASPI ) get what they deserve, I’m one of those that had to wait till I was 66 before I got my pension.
