Stalybridge school needs your help to replace much-loved shed

A STALYBRIDGE primary school is looking for the community’s help to replace a much-loved ‘reading shed’ which was damaged when the town was hit by a tornado.

As The Correspondent first reported, the freak storm ripped through Dukinfield and Stalybridge on the evening of December 27 and left a trail of destruction.

Millbrook was one of the areas badly affected by the surprise and rare weather event.

But it wasn’t just homes, trees and vehicles that were damaged as a result.

Millbrook Primary School is counting the cost after its outdoor ‘reading shed’ – including all of the books inside – was completely destroyed.

The shed was officially opened by the then Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Janet Cooper, in July 2021 and several events held by the school and parent teacher association (PTA) helped to fund its purchase.

But Mike Robinson, the chair of governors, said the total cost of replacing the shed and its contents is in the region of £2,000 – which is not covered by the school’s building insurance.

So, the school on Bank Road has launched a crowdfunding campaign in a bid to raise the funds and says any money that can be donated would be greatly appreciated.
