Suspended sentence given to stalker

Tameside Magistrates Court

AN ASHTON man has received a suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of stalking a woman.

Loukas Achmet, of Dean Street, turned up at his victim’s home and workplace over the course of 11 days last February.

According to court papers, the 25-year-old pursued a ‘course of conduct amounted to stalking and caused serious alarm or distress.’

They added they had a substantial adverse effect on his victim’s day-to-day activities when he knew or ought to have known it would.

And after pleading not guilty, he was found guilty at Tameside Magistrates Court and on January 23, he was handed a 10-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 12 months.

Achmet was also given a restraining order banning him from contacting his victim directly or indirectly or entering an Ashton street.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £128 and costs of £660.
