‘New’ faces at Denton St Lawrence

DENTON St Lawrence Cricket Club has brought in two new players for its 2023 season – including one returning face.

Jason Ebbrell has come back to Sycamore Park, where he first emerged as a young player before stints at clubs including Hyde and Hayfield.

And seeing the pace bowler, who is described as having ‘a destructive nature with the bat’ is exciting club chiefs ahead of this year’s Greater Manchester Cricket League campaign.

They said: “We are certainly excited to see him back as a much more mature, well-rounded cricketer. He’s certainly a match-winning cricketer.”

Also arriving at St Lawrence for this year’s Premier League season after finishing fourth in 2022 is Luke Sumner.

The local lad has been playing in Australia, for Moe, Traralgon West and latterly Bruthen in New South Wales.

During four seasons in the game on the other side of the world, the left arm spinner took 93 wickets at an average of 15.

And St Lawrence believe his arrival will add much more than talent on the wicket.

They added: “His interest for the game and enthusiasm for coaching will see him be a massive addition for the club, not just as a cricketer”
