TAMESIDE’S Hack, a free two-day digital event for 11 to 18 year olds is making a comeback this October half term, and promises to be bigger and better than ever.
With bespoke career opportunities on offer for the winning teams and even more spaces available for young people to join in and showcase their digital skills.
#HACK8 will be a fun event, designed to test and develop skills in a battle through a series of coding challenges. The challenges are set by business sponsors who provide expert staff to mentor and judge, as well as donating prizes, adding their expertise and boosting knowledge (as well as providing food!). Young people can attend individually or as a team or they can form one on the day and make new friends.
The event will be held at the state of the art Tameside College ICT Department at The Tameside One Campus in Ashton. It takes place during half-term, on Thursday October 26 and Friday 27, from 9.30am to 4pm.
This year’s headline sponsors and Challenge Setters are Nequinox Studios. Their team expertly deliver award-winning, world-class AAA games. Directed by industry leaders, they bring their expertise and passion for games to create exceptional player experiences.
Anthony Robinson, Nequinox Studios Ltd, said “We jumped at the chance to support HACK8, we love to share our passion for games wherever we can; supporting the young people of Tameside is the perfect opportunity for us to help mentor and show them how far they can develop their skills and encourage creativity through digital skills.”
Councillor Dave Sweeton, Tameside Council Executive Member for Inclusive Growth, Business and Employment, added: “This event is fantastic and really highlights the exciting opportunities open to young people in the digital sector. We want as many young people to get involved as possible and encourage them to develop or extend their skills in this area, which will help them to access future career opportunities. I’d also like to give a massive thank you to all the fantastic sponsors who make the event possible.”
Other sponsors this year include IN4 Group, Phoenix Software, Brother, Rio Ferdinand Konica Minolta, Foundation, Barclays EagleLabs, Visual Architects and Graze Manchester.
