DOZENS of people braved the rain to pay their respects the Queen Elizabeth II and take part in a national minute’s silence.
Stalybridge War Memorial was the site of a ceremony organised by the Royal British Legion in honour of Her Majesty.
After speeches and prayers led by Peter Edwards, chairman of the Stalybridge and Dukinfield branch, three standards were lowered as the gathering fell silent.
Local councillors were joined by Scout groups and members of the public on Sunday, September 18 at the Trinity Street memorial, which also saw floral tributes and candles lit in the Queen’s memory.
And as people spilled on to the road because of the large turnout, respects were paid perfectly as the town joined the nation in giving thanks for Her Majesty’s service.
