ASHTON’S St Damian’s RC Science College has described pupils’ performance in their GCSEs as ‘outstanding’ and ‘exceptional.’
A huge 96 per cent achieved Grades Nine-Seven – A*-B – in Chemistry, with 83 per cent in Biology and 87 per cent in Physics.
91.5 per cent of pupils at the Lees Road establishment gained at least a standard pass in Maths and 87 per cent in English, with 84 per cent getting one in both and more than two thirds, 68 per cent, notching a strong pass.
There were very strong performances in languages and humanities and GCSE Art and Design and Food as well as strong outcomes in the vocational subjects including ICT, Sport, Child Development, Construction and Sport.
And as a Catholic School, St Damian’s is also ‘very proud’ of students’ high performance in Religious Education.
The school said: “GCSE students surpassed all expectations working with resilience and determination throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
“St Damian’s offers a challenging EBacc curriculum. There were exceptional performances at the highest grades across the range of sciences.”
There were several individual achievements, with head boy Frank Duffy, of Droylsden, gaining eight Grade Nines along with head girl, Ashton’s Rhiannon Stafford.
