IT IS another year and another set of record-breaking results for Ashton’s Great Academy – thanks to its ‘inspirational’ pupils.
And as principal David Waugh said, they simply ‘smashed it.’
A total of 271 students broke all records in their GCSE, BTEC and OCR tests with what are described as ‘outstanding results which give them their passport to their next stage in learning, college, sixth form and beyond.’

Tia Mistry took top spot among pupils by achieving top grades across the board with nine Grade Nines and a Distinction Star and will study Maths and Science A-levels at Ashton Sixth Form College.
Hafsa Ali achieved eight Grade Nines, a Grade Eight and a Distinction Star and will study at Blue Coat Sixth Form.
Number one for progress is Faiza Mazhar Iqbal Hussain, who achieved her nine GCSEs surpassing each one of them by more than two-and-a-half grades above target.
Lois Cooper achieved his nine GCSEs at exactly two-and-a-half above target for each.
Great Academy Ashton, on Broadoak Road, saw students study a vast range of courses ranging from GCSE Spanish to Computing, from English to Mathematics, from Film Studies to Sport Science.
And Mr Waugh, said: “I am simply in awe of everything our young people have achieved and the great positive impact our staff have had.
“This year group have faced adversity not seen by generations for more than 75 years and they have simply ‘smashed it!’
“Their results are so very well deserved and are a great reward for their unwavering dedication to their studies and their participation in school life.
“We ask our students to ‘be the best possible version of themselves’ in every aspect of school life and this year group has certainly done that, surpassing the previous examination records set.
“I am truly humbled to see how well each and every one of them has achieved in their GCSE and BTEC qualifications.
“It has been a genuine privilege to support them on their journey to success and we all wish them the very best of luck for their future learning and careers ahead.”
