Plenty of Pride on show

TAMESIDE displayed all its Pride as its celebration of all things LGBT+ returned.

Cheetham Park in Stalybridge saw hundreds of people turn out in wonderful sunshine for Tameside Pride on Saturday, July 16.Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Mike Glover, Tameside Council leader Cllr Ged Cooney and local MP Jonathan Reynolds were among some of the dignitaries to show their support.

After two years operating digitally, this year saw the return of the real thing and it did not disappoint.

Dr Carl Austin-Behan, mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham’s LGBT+ advisor was also on hand to make sure events went smoothly.

But everyone was under the same rainbow flag as 50 years of the Pride movement were marked in style.

Several drag performers belted out tunes from the stage while plenty of groups set up stalls around the perimeter before a fairground.

And Mark Llewellin, vice-chairman of trustees at Willow Wood Hospice and one of the driving forces behind the event, certainly took the prize for standing out the most.

Wearing a sparkly gold jacket in blazing sun is bound to make you prominent, if a little hot!
