Christmas comes early in Haughton Green

A LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUP has secured a planted Christmas Tree for Haughton Green Village.

When sponsorship for the village’s annual Christmas became increasingly difficult to secure, Forever Green Community Group rose to the challenge: the group was determined to ensure the Village always had a tree.

Tameside firm Pete Garcia Fabrications stepped up and generously provided the funds and logistics and have even promised to create an ornate metal tree guard to protect the tree whilst it establishes itself.

The tree was planted on 06 October 2020 on Tommy Todd Village Green, Haughton Green Road.

Cathy Newton, Chair or Forever Green, said: ”we are so thankful to everyone that has made this possible: the Forever Green volunteers, the local councillors, the groundskeeping teams at Tameside Council — but especially Pete Garcia and his team.”

Cathy added: “we’re gutted that we can’t get together in person to illuminate the tree this year, but coronavirus won’t spoil the magic of Christmas — stay tuned!”
