ARMED police descended on Hattersley as an alleged kidnap incident saw a man take to the roof of a house.
People living on Tawton Avenue found themselves at the centre of an operation which saw specialist officers attend along with the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) force’s helicopter.
A video of the chaos circulated on social media as what is believed to have been a domestic incident attracted the response.
Initial reports claimed a man in a car was deliberately trying to run people over.
A GMP spokesman confirmed a man took to a rooftop before he was eventually arrested on Chapman Road, about a mile away. He was later released with no further action.
They said: “A man was on the roof for a short time before coming down voluntarily.
“Police were called at about 8.40pm on Tuesday, May 19 to reports of a man in a car trying to run people over on Tawton Avenue in Hattersley.
“Further reports were made that the man had kidnapped a woman and was in possession of a firearm at an address on the street.
“Specialist officers were deployed to the scene and a man in his 20s was arrested a short time later on Chapman Road on suspicion of kidnap and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear.
“No injuries have been reported and a cordon was in place at the scene as investigators began their enquiries.
“No-one has been charged. The man who was arrested has been released with no further action.
Enquiries are ongoing.”
