Clarence Arcade opens its doors bringing Victorian charm back to Ashton

A HISTORIC shopping arcade in Ashton-under-Lyne has officially reopened following a major restoration, bringing independent businesses, entertainment and a touch of Victorian charm back to the town centre.

Clarence Arcade, on Stamford Street, opened its doors on Saturday, October 31, with a Halloween celebration marking the start of a new chapter for the historic building.

Clarence Arcade has officially opened on Stamford Street in Ashton-under-Lyne, bringing 12 independent businesses, shopping and entertainment to the restored Victorian building.

Now home to 12 firms, it offers everything from vintage toys and comics to beauty treatments, baby clothing, gifts and afternoon tea.

The development aims to create a destination for shopping, dining and leisure, while bringing new life to Ashton’s town centre.

Visitors can explore a range of independent shops, including Ivy Rose Baby Boutique, fantasy fashion brand Astra Designs UK and magical gifts shop Hocus Pocus.

Other businesses include Gamesmania, Comicandy, The Magical Toy Imporium, Seasons, Dynamic, Jojo Aesthetics, Movie Art Gallery and Tea Cakes and Tiaras.

For those looking for something beyond shopping, Clarence Arcade is also home to the Metro Majestic Cinema and Cocktail Lounge, offering the chance to catch a film or enjoy a drink during a visit.

From vintage toys and comics to afternoon tea and a mini cinema, Clarence Arcade is bringing a new lease of life to Ashton town centre following its grand opening on Halloween. .

Restoration work has brought back the building’s Victorian character, with ornate details and traditional features creating a distinctive setting for its new tenants.

Alongside the shops, free live music and themed entertainment will take place every Saturday from midday.

Halloween-themed attractions featured during opening weekend, with further events planned throughout the year.

A Victorian winter wonderland transformation is also planned for November, bringing a festive attraction to Ashton ahead of Christmas.

Owner Andy Kleek has led the project after taking over the building earlier this year, with the aim of restoring its former glory and creating a new destination for the town.
